My work combines very different passions, ones I’ve had all my life.
Not only do I nurture a keen interest in science and technology (computing in particular), but I also have a love of writing. I combine them by writing about science and technology, both the fundamentals and the state of the art.
I get my kicks by looking at well-worn issues from a new angle, or by making people enthusiastic about topics they might never before have considered. There are fascinating stories to tell within any subject if you look hard enough.
I also like to help people make sense of the latest trends in these fast-moving areas and explain how they affect our lives and our society.
My background puts me in a prime position to do this:
- I’m an experienced author, having written numerous books and articles on software, technology and other subjects.
- I spent several years in academia, gaining a PhD in computer science, working at universities in the UK and Germany, and teaching a broad spectrum of students from complete beginners to seasoned professionals.
- I’m a veteran software developer, having written code professionally for over a decade. In 2013 I co-founded Berlin-based software company Endocode.
